Orange CEO Stephane Richard targets third term in charge, European network upgrades continue

Written by  Dec 08, 2017

Stephane Richard is aiming for a third term as Chief Executive Officer at Orange, with a vote set to be held in February.

Richard addressed investors in London this week, outlining his company's plans to continue with the rapid upgrading of its broadband and mobile networks in the key markets of France, Spain and Poland.

In a competitive French market, he is credited with maintaining Orange - of which just under a quarter is owned by Emmanuel Macron's government - as one of its leading telecommunications companies.

Orange's strategy of focussing on its networks rather than also bidding for content rights is in contrast to most of its competitors - though it's a stance that Richard says they are determined to maintain.

"We will not participate to the expected inflation of sports rights," he said. "Regarding investments in content, we could see some partnerships between operators."

The company is currently valued at €38bn, with group investments set to reach a high of €7.4bn in 2018. Board members will determine Richard's future on February 20th.
