Germany’s Sofatutor raises €3 million for its edtech platform

Written by  Feb 17, 2018

German edtech startup Sofatutor has raised €3 million led by Frog Capital with participation from Acton Capital Partners, JCMB Beteiligung, VC Fonds Kreativwirtschaft, and Cornelsen, a school textbook publisher.

The Sofatutor platform is used by students from elementary school through to A-levels for gaining learning support through educational content and homework chat.

“With our online learning platform, we were among the first digital education offerings in the German market, and are now one of the leading providers of digital learning materials in German-speaking countries,” said Stephan Bayer, CEO of Sofatutor. “No other platform has such an extensive offer of educational videos with matching exercises.”

The Berlin-based company plans to invest the new funds in continued development of its learning platform and expanding its presence in the German-speaking market where it has 200,000 users.

Jens Düing, partner Frog Capital, said he expects Sofatutor to become Germany’s biggest learning platform as education and schoolwork becomes more digital: “In the coming years we see great potential for mobile usage and further growth of the digital learnings solutions.”
